    Erika Mackinnon has built an intense and focused career in medical sales over the last five years. Her experience includes business development, strategy implementation, market research, revenue maximization, and client relationship management. She is also experienced in sales forecasting, account management, and delivering presentations for new product launches. Since 2020, she has concentrated on medical device sales, specializing in the spine sector. Currently serving as a Spine Specialist and Sales Associate, she operates within operating rooms daily, supporting surgical teams and offering technical product insight tailored to the needs of each procedure.

    Erika’s Foray Into the Medical Sales Field

    Her career in medical sales began after she completed a 440-hour postgraduate program at Medical Sales College in Sarasota, Florida. Erika earned her Spine, Orthopedic Reconstruction, and Trauma certification upon completion. This program allowed her to build a foundation in core areas such as regenerative medicine, orthopedic reconstruction, trauma devices, and dynamic consultative selling. She also developed knowledge of business development practices tailored to medical device territory growth and client engagement.

    Throughout the course, Erika became familiar with surgical procedures and products for the spine, biologics, sports medicine, and orthopedic trauma. Her understanding extended to anatomy, physiology, biomechanics, pathology, orthobiologics, and clinical terminology. She became confident in operating room environments, where she learned to navigate hospital call points, follow surgical protocols, and respond to provider needs in real-time.

    Her ability to hold clinical discussions regarding specific pathologies and the surgical approaches used to address them allowed her to connect with providers and demonstrate how particular devices and implants could contribute to improved patient outcomes.

    During her training period, Mackinnon also began her role as a sales associate at SS Fusion Medica in Tampa, Florida. In this position, she helped cover accounts within defined territories, arranged meetings with physicians and hospital personnel, and cultivated relationships with clinical and administrative teams. This early role gave her firsthand experience in medical sales and positioned her for long-term growth in the field.

    Her Role at Globus Medical, Memphis, Tennessee

    After one year at SS Fusion Medica, Mackinnon transitioned to Globus Medical in Memphis, Tennessee, where she has remained for four years as a Sales Associate. Here, she has developed as a reliable contributor to sales performance, client support, and market expansion efforts. She has worked to establish and maintain productive relationships with providers, helping the company meet business objectives through tailored solutions and consistent communication.

    Her presence in the operating room is a core part of her responsibilities, where she provides product knowledge and surgical support across a wide range of spinal procedures. These include ACDF (Anterior Cervical Discectomy and Fusion), PCF (Posterior Cervical Fusion), TLIF (Transforaminal Lumbar Interbody Fusion), PLIF (Posterior Lumbar Interbody Fusion), ALIF (Anterior Lumbar Interbody Fusion), and lateral lumbar interbody fusion. She also supports more complex deformity correction procedures.

    Her ability to operate confidently in surgical settings and provide reliable, procedure-specific assistance has earned her the trust of surgeons and hospital teams. She communicates clearly and ensures that her product knowledge aligns with clinical needs.

    Erika’s Undergraduate Education and Previous Career Experience

    Erika was born and raised in Tallahassee, Florida, and is a first-generation American on her father’s side. She graduated from Florida State University in 2016 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminology. Following graduation, she began working in public policy as a Chief Legislative Intern for the Florida Senate. In this position, she contributed to the legislative process by drafting briefing materials, editing talking points, tracking proposed legislation, and participating in meetings with constituents, nonprofits, and lobbyists.

    Mackinnon continued in the political field by becoming a junior lobbyist and political fundraiser. Her work focused on building relationships with elected officials and community figures, raising funds, and supporting legislative efforts. These roles developed her communication skills and understanding of organized outreach and advocacy.

    Erika later worked as a Business Development Analyst at GSSP in Stamford, Connecticut. There, she conducted policy analysis, assisted in sales and acquisition strategies, and managed logistical components of real estate and tax equity transactions. She also supported the Vice President of Business Development in strategic tasks, gaining exposure to financial operations and project management.

    Mackinnon then joined The O’Rourke Group as Deputy Finance Director. In that role, she worked to grow a portfolio of donors and supporters for political and philanthropic initiatives. She built relationships with individuals and organizations, researched potential contributors, and managed fundraising strategies. Her ability to communicate effectively and build trust led to successful campaign outcomes and increased funding.

    Her experiences in government and business development ultimately prepared her for a transition to the healthcare industry, beginning with her role at SS Fusion Medica and leading to her advancement at Globus Medical.

    In addition to her Spine, Orthopedic Reconstruction, and Trauma Certification, she holds several professional credentials. These include certifications in the AdvaMed Code of Ethics, Aseptic Technique and Infection Control, Bloodborne Pathogens, Electrical Safety, Fire Safety, HIPAA Compliance, National Patient Safety, and Protocol Training. These certifications enhance her qualifications and support her work in hospital and surgical environments by ensuring compliance with safety and ethical standards.

    An Eye for Interior Design

    Beyond her professional work, Erika has long been interested in interior design. A few years ago, she purchased a home and transformed it into a personal project. She blended traditional, modern, and vintage elements to create a space reflecting her design sense. She enjoys antique shopping and repurposing items in creative ways. Though interior design remains a hobby, she has considered turning it into a professional pursuit.

    A Foodie, Too

    As a mother of two, Erika spends considerable time in the kitchen. She is known among family and friends for her cooking and attention to presentation. She enjoys creating flavorful and visually appealing meals and values the shared experience of preparing food for loved ones. Cooking is both a creative outlet and a way to connect with others.

    Supporting Causes Close to Her Heart

    Mackinnon is also committed to causes that align with her values. She donates to the Salvation Army, supporting services for needy individuals and families. She also contributes to the Humane Society, helping prevent animal cruelty and promote animal welfare.
